The Right Decision platform will host educational guidance on key diagnostic tests held within the Atlas of Variation. Information includes; background, when to test, when not to test, when to repeat a test and any further reading recommendations. There is also an opportunity for users to test their knowledge.

The advice provided in this education toolkit was developed to expedite and maximise the utility, impact and implementation of the Primary Care Atlas of Variation for Diagnostic Laboratory Tests. This toolkit will contribute towards the delivery of standardised diagnostic testing practices across all boards in Scotland, with the aim to reduce harm, waste and unwarranted variation to improve health outcomes.

The work of the National Demand Optimisation Group (NDOG) aligns with the ethos of the Realistic Medicine approach; strengthening the relationships between those who provide and receive care, and ensuring that people receive appropriate and beneficial care that is evidence-based and in line with their preferences
